Also known as "bitter orange", Citrus Aurantium has many uses. It contains synephrine (an alkaloid with similarities to ephedrine) and is often used in weight loss supplements to provide you with the benefits of ephedrine without the harmful aspects.1
In Asian medicine the dried fruit is primarily used for digestive disorders, to improve appetite, and for weight loss. Other uses are for upset stomach, nasal congestion, and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).2 The peel, flower, leaf, fruit, and fruit juice are all used to make medicine. Bitter orange oil is made from the peel and when applied to the skin, is used for treatment of fungal skin infections.2
Citrus Aurantium is used for gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, for regulating fat levels in the blood, lowering blood sugar in diabetics, stimulating the heart and circulation, "blood purification", disorders of the gallbladder, kidney and bladder diseases and as a sedative for sleep disorders.2 When used for weight loss Citrus Aurantium aids the body in shedding fat and suppressing the appetite.1 The inclusion of this herb in our Day DietsTM, eACTM and Diet ReviveTM products assists your body in burning fat, suppressing your appetite, and increasing energy levels to help keep you active while dieting.
